They lived in one (with wood floors and wallpaper on the walls) and leased the other two, one of which contained a "manipol"-a liquor store and a postal dispatch center. In World War I they were burnt to the ground. Itzhak Pilchik was an engineer/carpenter who built wheat grinding mills (with tethered mules and also wind-powered). He would cut ice in the winter from the Yasel'da river that ran through Selets and store it in an underground space filled with sawdust.
