Chamber Temple in 1616, becoming a gentleman of the Privy Chamber andfriend of
Charles I. He also served as private secretary to George Villiers,duke of
Buckingham, Prime Minister of England, until the Duke was assassinatedin Aug.
1628. He was knighted at Breda, Holland in 1650 and acted as herale in
proclaiming Charles Stuart King of England in 1651. He was takenprisoner at
the battle of Worcester, escaped with other prisoners, but wasrecaptured by
Cromwell's forces and because of his loyalty to the throne wascommitted a
close prisoner in the Tower Nov. 1, 1651. At the end of 8 years wasreleased,
his property either confiscated or dissipated by his enemies. In 1649his sons
removed from their place of nativity, Eccleston in the parish of St.Michaels,
Lancashire, to Lurgan in Ulster, Ireland.
