GenPol user guide
Public guidance for visitors, search engines and assistants.
Search and sources
Enter a surname or given name in search. Results include people and materials; open a result and check its tree, description and sources. No result does not prove that data is absent. To find a vital record, establish the locality, year, full name and, when needed, denomination. Do not guess the archive or person identity.
Search and sources →Your first tree
Register and confirm your email. After signing in, open your personal page. Add the first person on the empty chart, then their family. When the starter chart disappears, use the button to open the tree.
Your first tree →Editing and the library
Enable chart editing. Add parents beside the correct person; add spouses and children from that person card too. If a relative is already recorded, search for them rather than create a duplicate. Saving should return you to the page where editing began. Event icons open sources, notes and remarks. Upload photos and documents or select them from the library; explicitly choose a profile photograph. Finish editing for an uncluttered chart.
Editing and the library →Access and collaboration
Tree owners and collaborators have different roles. A tree invitation grants specified rights; never share your password. The collaborator list concerns trees of the account named on the page. Private data requires permission. Revoke collaborator access to end collaboration; deleting an entire account is a separate operation. External assistants can read public pages but receive no editing rights or access to private data.
Signing in to GenPol alone grants neither registered-only data access nor editing rights. Registered-only access requires an explicit grant for that tree or branch; private data additionally requires private-view permission.
