  Notes	SYLVESTER JOSEPH (JACK) EIFERT Sylvester Joseph Eifert, son of Joseph and Rose Eifert (Bucholz) was born on February 7,1912 at Richville. He married Lorraine Wrobek, bom June 2, 1913, at LeSueur Center, Minnesota. Her parents were Frank M. And Antonette Wrobek. Jack served in the USA Army for twenty-five years. He served at Fort Snelling as Tech. Sgt. in 1940. In 1941 he was sent to St. John Newfoundland and served in Headquarters Third Infantry Unit. When England got into the war, the families were sent to Newfoundland by a blackout ferry boat. They did not want them to return to New York Harbor because of Nazi submarines in the area. In 1941 he was in charge of Patrol for Nazi submarines as a Lieutenant at Long Island, New York. 1943-1947 he was sent to Philippines and New Guinea and worked with returning American Prisoners of War as a Captain. Jack and Lorraine came back to Fort Snelling in 1947. Lorraine followed Jack to Long Island and Georgia and Philippines and Japan, Washington D.C. and Texas. Jack served in Korea for fifteen months in 1950. In 1952, Major Jack and Lorraine lived in Japan. In 1953, they came back to the States to the Pentagon in Washington D. C. for one year. He retired to Fort Bliss, Texas, as Lieutenant Colonel after twenty-five years of service. Jack and Lorraine had three daughters. Their first daughter, Bonnie Eileen, died at birth August 2, 1944. Second daughter, Cherly Lee (Krenik) was bom June 7, 1948 in St. Paul. Diane Lynn (Weber) was bom in Duluth September 3, 1949. Jack and Lorraine retired in LeCenter Minnesota for thirteen years. They came to Perham and lived on Paul Lake in 1976. Jack died November 30, 1980. Lorraine is still very active in volunteering and local organizations. She enjoyed golf and bowling. She taught country school for seven years in Scott County near Prior Lake. Lorraine graduated from New Prague Teachers Training in 1933. Memorable moments: 1946-first boat load of military dependents to &o to the Philippines and Okinawa after World War 11. Ran into a typhoon while going to Yokahama, Japan- which took them thirteen days instead of nine to go to Japan. Everybody got sick because of the terrible motion of the ship. (We saw a lot of debris from the war.) Did enjoy taking dancing lessons by natives in the Philippines. From East Otter Tail History Volume II 1994 [2]
