  Notes	Odessa worked in a hospital as kitchen personnel. This story was recorded by Juanita Mullings, Fleenor: When Mother and Aunt Peggy, who was eleven months younger, were fiveand four they had to take care of younger brother Frank while theolder kids and Grandma Yaws worked in the field picking cotton. Theygot very tired of pulling him around in the wagon. One day the farmowner saw them and stopped to talk with them. He thought it would bea good joke to offer to buy the baby. As they were tired of pullingthe wagon they readily agreed to sell him for one dollar. He paid thedollar and took the baby, wagon and all, to the house knowing Grandmawould be there soon. They very proudly went to the cotton field to show Grandma what a gooddeal they had made. She spanked their bottoms, made them go to thehouse to get the baby and give back the dollar. They cried and thefarmer was sorry he had caused them to get spanked, so they all got inthe pick up and went back to the field. They got to keep the dollarbut they had that kid to care for again. This was in 1914 and adollar was a lot of money then.
